Goa govt blacklists contractor over faulty Kala Academy renovation

Panaji, May 16: The Goa government on Friday blacklisted Techton Buildcon Pvt Ltd after glaring lapses were found in the renovation of the iconic Kala Academy building in Panaji, sparking criticism from artists and opposition leaders.

Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said the contractor has been given a final deadline till October 2025 to rectify all issues without charging the state any further amount. The renovation project, awarded at a cost of Rs 50 cr, came under fire after repeated glitches in the 1,000-seat Dinanath Mangueshkar auditorium, including sound and lighting failures.

Amid mounting backlash, the government has also scrapped its plan to enter into a four-year Annual Maintenance Contract (AMC) with the same firm.
