Sangolda, May 19: A concrete segment of an under-construction elevated corridor at Sangolda junction came crashing down on Sunday afternoon during lifting operations, leaving two individuals injured and prompting a swift response from emergency teams.
The mishap occurred when the metal hooks supporting the segment reportedly gave way, causing the large concrete structure to fall mid-operation. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported.
Among the injured was a civilian who had brought his two-wheeler to a nearby mechanic and was hit by falling debris, sustaining a leg injury. A labourer involved in the construction work also sustained injuries. Both were rushed to the North Goa District Hospital in Mapusa for treatment.

The Porvorim police have registered the incident under the “other accident” category. “No formal complaint has been lodged against any party yet, but we are investigating,” said Saligao PI Somnath Mahajik, currently overseeing the Porvorim Police Station.
Authorities are yet to confirm the exact cause of the collapse. A detailed investigation is ongoing, and further updates are awaited.
