Kolkata, May 21: Multiple unidentified drone-like objects were spotted hovering over the Kolkata night sky on Monday, raising serious security concerns and triggering a high-level investigation.

According to police sources, 8–10 flying objects resembling drones were seen over prominent areas including Hastings, Vidyasagar Setu (Second Hooghly Bridge), Maidan, and Park Circus. The unusual activity was first noticed by personnel at the Hastings Police Station.

“These drone-like objects were seen flying in from the Maheshtala region of South 24 Parganas and were spotted near sensitive zones such as Fort William, the headquarters of the Eastern Command,” a police officer revealed.

The incident, which has sparked fears of potential espionage, has prompted the Centre to seek a detailed report from the West Bengal government.

A joint investigation has been launched by the Special Task Force (STF) and the Detective Department of Kolkata Police to trace the source and nature of these aerial intrusions.

Officials are not ruling out any angle, including the possibility of surveillance or hostile reconnaissance attempts.
