Tel Aviv, May 21: Israeli military forces fired warning shots after a diplomatic delegation deviated from an approved route during a visit to Jenin in the occupied West Bank, the army confirmed. According to an official statement, the delegation entered an unauthorized area, prompting soldiers to fire warning shots. No injuries were reported, though the Israeli military expressed regret for the inconvenience caused.

The incident drew immediate condemnation from the Palestinian Authority, which criticized the use of ‘live fire’ by Israeli forces. Italy’s foreign minister Antonio Tajani demanded a prompt clarification from Israel, highlighting that an Italian diplomat was part of the delegation. “Threats against diplomats are unacceptable,” Tajani wrote on social media platform X.

The Spanish Foreign Ministry also condemned the incident, expressing concern over the firing near their diplomats.

The situation has raised diplomatic tensions amid the sensitive security environment in the West Bank.
