Draft notification out to address agri zones, unscientific roads: Yashpal Suvarna

Media Release

Udupi, May 21: In a major relief to residents within the jurisdiction of the Udupi Urban Development Authority, the Urban Development Department of the Government of Karnataka has issued a draft notification to address several long-standing hurdles related to house construction, said Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna.

The draft notification cancels the earlier deadline of January 11, 2023, which restricted residential construction in agricultural zones. It also proposes corrections in the zonal regulations where certain elements such as unscientifically planned roads, high-tension electric lines, railway tracks, and streams were inaccurately marked. Moreover, the notification aims to rectify areas wrongly classified as public or semi-public zones, thus facilitating regularization and planned development.

MLA Yashpal Suvarna noted that he had previously submitted formal requests to the Urban Development Minister and relevant officials to amend these regulations, highlighting the challenges faced by Udupi residents in the last legislative session. Responding to these appeals, the department has now taken action by issuing this draft notification.

He further informed that the public is invited to share their suggestions and feedback regarding the draft notification to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive resolution to the issues.
