Bengaluru, May 21: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will virtually inaugurate 103 redeveloped 'Amrit Stations' across India on May 22, including five railway stations from Karnataka, under the ambitious Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS).

According to an official release, the five Karnataka stations being inaugurated are Munirabad in Koppal district, Bagalkot, Gadag, Gokak Road in Belagavi district, and Dharwad. These stations have been upgraded under the ABSS initiative with modern facilities aimed at enhancing passenger convenience.

The virtual event will be hosted from Bikaner, Rajasthan. The revamped stations are spread across 86 districts in 18 states and Union Territories and have been developed at a cost of Rs 1,100 cr.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme envisions the redevelopment of over 1,300 railway stations across the country with a focus on regional architectural aesthetics and passenger comfort.

Facilities such as improved waiting areas, modernized ticketing systems, and even resting arrangements for passengers during late-night travel have been integrated into the design.

The redevelopment project seeks to transform Indian railway stations into modern transport hubs, making them more accessible, efficient, and reflective of local culture.
