Mangaluru, May 22: Yenepoya Medical College Hospital observed the World Hypertension Day. The event aimed to raise awareness around Hypertension and to promote the importance of regular check-ups and healthy practices. The observance of the Hypertension Day began symbolically by the BP screening of the elderly patients at the Hospital’s NCD Screening Clinic.

Vijayanand Shetty, senior marketing executive, welcomed the gathering and introduced the dignitaries on and off the dais. Dr Nagaraj Shet, assistant medical superintendent, YMCH, delivered the keynote address. He said, “The Yenepoya Medical College Hospital is dedicated in its goal to enhance the collective public health. We aim to achieve this not just through quality care but also by creating awareness about various health risks through the observance of such various health-related days”

Chief guest of the event Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, HoD & professor general medicine, YMCH addressed the gathering urging everyone to regularly get checked for BP and related issues and to not ignore any early symptoms.

Dr Habib Rahaman A A, medical superintendent, YMCH, presided over the event. In the presidential address Dr Habib emphasized the significance of the Hypertension Day and why it is celebrated. He also oriented the gathering on the Yenepoya Medical College Hospital’s NCD Clinics. These clinics are run specifically for the students of the University and patient parties for the screening of non-communicable diseases. The BP and blood sugar check-ups are conducted free of cost in these NCD Screening clinics.

K M Sathya Devi, nursing superintendent, Dr Basma Reem Ameer, assistant professor of Community Medicine, Muhammed Sabith, deputy hospital operations officer, Nelvin Nelson, deputy manager, nursing supervisor, section heads, AHOOs and assistant quality officer were also present at the event.
