Kasargod, May 23: A moving car caught fire near Bevinje, close to Cherkala on the national highway, on Friday May 23. Fortunately, all five members of the family travelling in the car escaped unhurt.
The incident occurred when smoke started emerging from the bonnet of the car as it reached Bevinje. The vehicle, which was travelling from Mumbai to Kannapuram in Kannur, was being driven by Iqbal Ahmad from Mumbai, who was accompanied by his wife and children. They were on their way to visit his wife's brother.

As soon as the smoke was noticed, the family members quickly exited the car. Within moments, the vehicle was engulfed in flames. Despite the timely escape, the fire destroyed cash, two mobile phones, a camera, and four sovereigns of gold jewellery that were inside the car.
It is reported that the car had been purchased just about one and a half months ago and was a CNG model. Fire and emergency personnel from Kasargod arrived at the scene and managed to douse the flames.
No injuries were reported, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the fire.
