Mangalore: Woman Claims 'Death' of Living Husband, Gets Records Transferred

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Jan 24: Talk of going to any extreme to get oneself 'officially' free of one's spouse, and it wouldn't get worse than this. A woman allegedly declared her husband dead, even while he still lives, to get the records of amenities in her name!

Back in August 2009, Nancy, wife of Emmanuel Richard Mark of Kodikal, had told the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) that her husband had died, for which she subsequently got a death certificate. She also got records of property tax, electricity and water transferred to her name.

However, the matter came to light only now, when the 'dead' husband contacted the MCC to apply for pension. He was shocked to learn that according to records, he had 'died' in 2009, and everything was now in Nancy's name.

Emmanuel and Nancy have been living at Kodikal for the past 15 years, but of late, differences had emerged between the two and they had started leading separate lives in their house, with Emmanuel fending for himself and the rest of the family - Nancy, their daughter Dolly Diana and her husband John Lobo - staying in the house separately.

Emmanuel, a security guard in a firm, has now lodged a complaint with the police against his wife. Nancy, however defended herself claiming that she had no other go as he used to harass her.

A real surprise for me to read this article. In my case i am claiming my late husband property to be transferred in my name from 2005 with proper evidence of documents and legal municpal death certificate. Till date the property has not come in my name inspite of my repeated visits to taluk office, municpal office Gram Panchayat in Udupi. How can this happen in nancy's case when her husband is still alive?? who has to blame for this?Is it possible only in mangalore and not in UDUPI???

What a news,How can it be possible to claim death certificate if the person is living ? Don't you need proper evidence to prove? It is definitely act of bribery. The people involved need to be brought to justice. No matter whatever may be the difference one can always seek the help of a law or in worse cases can go for divorce. If you don't want to live with the person then why you need his property and wealth.Declaring someone dead when he/she is still living,is the greatest sin and shame.During the nuptials the bride & groom had to make a promise at the alter that "In happiness and sorrow we live together forever".Still you have time to accept your mistakes, get united, and lead a good life.It will certainly set example to others.

BOTH THE OFFICER CONCERNED AT THE MCC AND THE CHEATER ARE TO BE KEPT BEHIND BARS TO PREVENT THE DEATH OF OTHER INNOCENTS. BOTH CULPRITS ARE KILLERS AND THE OFFENCE IS AS SAME AS THAT OF KILLERS.

Any way it is better to give solutions I would put this way 1.whatever happened forgive and forget after all they are husband and wife
2.Now some reputed Community leaders should intervene and broker peace between the two
    3. The House should be in joint name of husband and wife rewright the agreement
4.No Court cases to be filed
    5. The husband and even Nancy is old now shall be looked after well by her daughter and son in law
6.If Emanule cannot live together with Nancy he should be given some money every month towrds expenses by Daughter and son -in Law
7.Both Emanuel and Nancy should make a Will that all property will be given to their Daugther and son in law after their death

Marriage is the combination of two becoming one, there should not be question of seperation, harrasment and going to the extreme, if so is the case why to get married and spoil the life of the other.
Nancy or Emanuel, its difficult to comment as to who is right on the issue or what circumstances prompted Nancy to defend herself about the decision, in the end it is Emanuel who is under the hammer, anyway no one should do that especially to the spouse. Let Emanuel get what he is deserved to, he should get pension for his daily living

For “Great Nancy” it is as good as “Poor Emmanuel” is dead since he is no use for her. But for Emmanuel I think it is rebirth again. Again for Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), they are in dilemma whether to him “Dead or Alive” because they issued certificate stating that he was dead. But for common public, “Emmanuel is Ghost but not dead” and for his wife “He was dead but not Ghost” I think MCC will issue one more Certificate viz. “Death cum Re-Birth Certificate” and will mention like
TO WHOM SO EVER IT “MAY NOT” CONCERN. PLEASE NOTET THAT “EMMANUEL IS DEAD FOR THOSE WHO CAN’T SEE HIM” AND “EMMANUEL IS RE-BORN FOR THOSE WHO CAN FEEL HIM”. …………SIGNED & FELT BY: DHRITARASHTRA, THE PRESIDENT OF MCC GRAVE YARD.
