Garbage trucks spill wastewater on Mangaluru streets, motorists suffer

Mangaluru, May 24: The Mangaluru City Corporation's waste-carrying vehicles are becoming a serious nuisance and hazard for motorists and other road users. These garbage trucks, which transport waste to the Pacchanady dumping yard, are reportedly leaking foul-smelling wastewater as they travel through city roads.

Motorists driving behind these vehicles face the unpleasant and unhygienic experience of getting splashed with dirty, stinking water leaking from both sides of the trucks. This not only causes discomfort but also raises health concerns.

One of the major problem areas is the turn from Padavinangady to Pacchanady Road, where significant amounts of wastewater are spilled, leaving the stretch slippery and hazardous. The leaking wastewater contributes to foul odour across the city and poses a risk of accidents, especially for two-wheeler riders who are at high risk of skidding on the slippery road surface.

Despite the evident risks to public health and road safety, no effective measures have been taken by the authorities to resolve this issue. Immediate action is needed to ensure waste-carrying vehicles are properly sealed and maintained to prevent leakage. Addressing this problem is crucial not only for the safety of motorists but also for maintaining hygiene and cleanliness in Mangaluru city.
