Mangaluru: Seven inflammatory social media pages deactivated, cases transferred to CEN crime branch

Mangaluru, May 24: Authorities have deactivated four Instagram pages and one Facebook page that were posting inflammatory content intended to incite hatred between different religious and social groups.

A total of six Instagram pages and one Facebook page have now been taken down in India.

The posts had been designed to provoke criminal activity by stirring up communal tension.

The following cases have been registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC):

1. vhp_bajrangadal_ashoknagar and shankha_nada (Instagram) – Udupi Police Station FIR 42/2025 under IPC Sections 353(1) and 353(2).

2. _dj_bharath_2008 (Instagram) – Kaup Police Station FIR 69/2025 under IPC Sections 353(1) and 353(2).

3. karaavali_official (Instagram) – Mangaluru South Police Station FIR 86/2025 under IPC Sections 196, 351(3), and 353(2).

4. ‘Ashik Maikal’ (Facebook) – Barkur Police Station FIR 47/2025 under IPC Section 353(2).

All investigations have been transferred to the CEN crime branch of Mangaluru city police. Correspondence was sent to the relevant law enforcement agencies requesting the deactivation of these pages nationwide. Acting on these requests, the agencies have ensured that the specified Instagram and Facebook pages are no longer operational in India.

To date, six Instagram pages and one Facebook page posting seditious and inflammatory content have been deactivated. The CEN crime branch continues to investigate these cases under the direction of Mangaluru city police commissioner Anupam Agrawal, IPS; Deputy commissioner of police Siddharth Goyal, IPS (Crime & Security); and assistant commissioner of police Ravishankar (Administration & Law and Order).
