Mangaluru/Udupi, May 26: The government has released around Rs 11 crore for the repair of government school classrooms in Dakshina Kannada (DK) and Udupi districts. The repair works are scheduled to commence with the start of the new academic year.
Rs 6.97 crore has been sanctioned for the repair of over 750 classrooms in 312 schools across Dakshina Kannada district. In Udupi district, Rs 4.11 crore has been sanctioned for repairing 699 classrooms across 228 government schools. The proposal submitted for the year 2024–25 has received government approval, and repair works will now be carried out in both districts.

The academic year 2025–26 is set to begin on May 29. The education department has instructed schools to conduct Prarambhotsava (school reopening celebrations). In preparation, head teachers and staff are inspecting school facilities. SDMC members and alumni associations are also extending their support.
The repair works sanctioned in both districts must be completed at the earliest and classrooms made ready for students. The DDPI office has issued instructions to all BEOs and head teachers to complete the work without any delays and to submit a report to the district headquarters.
On the first day, government school students will be served sweet payasam along with the mid-day meal. Some schools will also offer special sweets sponsored by local donors. The department has directed schools to welcome all students, including newly enrolled ones, in a special manner. Entryways will be decorated with tender mango leaf festoons and flowers. Students will be welcomed with flowers, and public programs involving local donors and education enthusiasts will be held to inspire students with motivational speeches.
“Funds have been released for classroom repairs, and schools have been instructed to begin the work without delay. All schools have also been directed to take necessary precautions in view of the upcoming monsoon season. Admission and facility inspections are currently in progress,” said Ganapathi K and Govinda Madival, DDPI, Udupi and Dakshina Kannada.
A total of over 750 classrooms in Dakshina Kannada district and 699 in Udupi district are set to be repaired across various educational zones. In Dakshina Kannada, the works will cover 57 schools in Bantwal, 48 in Beltangady, 37 in Mangaluru North, 69 in Mangaluru South, 23 in Moodbidri, 49 in Puttur, and 29 in Sullia. In Udupi district, the repair works will include 46 schools in Udupi, 32 in Kaup, 66 in Kundapura, 34 in Karkala, and 51 in Byndoor.
