Mumbai, May 27: A 19-year-old man from Varanasi was arrested for allegedly attacking a 17-year-old girl in Kandivali (West), Mumbai, after she ignored his calls, police said on Monday.

The incident took place on May 24 at Gosalia Road in Sanjay Nagar when the girl was walking with a friend. Rahul Singh reportedly abused her, picked up a brick from the roadside, and struck her on the head. He also smashed her mobile phone, leaving the teenager with serious injuries.

The victim was rushed to Shatabdi Hospital for treatment. Investigations revealed that Singh came to Mumbai from Varanasi because the girl was not responding to his calls. The two are reportedly well acquainted.

Singh has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The police continue to investigate the case.
