Mangaluru, May 27: The third session of the Abbakka @500 Memorial Lecture Series was held under the joint auspices of the Karnataka State College Teachers’ Association – Mangalore University Chapter and Milagres College, Mangaluru on May 27.
Dr K C Mahadesh, a syndicate member of Mangalore University, inaugurated the event and in his address said, “Queen Abbakka’s sacrifice, courage, and bravery are a model for all of us. Through this lecture, we are once again remembering her legacy. If students cultivate patriotism, each one of them can become as brave as Abbakka.”
Fr Dr Michael L Santhumayor, principal of Milagres College, conveyed his best wishes on the occasion.
Renowned teacher and writer Vijayalakshmi Kateel delivered the memorial lecture on Queen Abbakka.
Distinguished guests present at the event included Dr S B M Prasanna, syndicate member of Mangalore University, and Sudha N Vaidya, former president of the KSCTA Mangalore division.
Prof Sowmya Kotian, head of the language department, welcomed the gathering. Lecturer Mamatha Shetty anchored the programme.
