Mangaluru, May 28: With the monsoon arriving earlier than expected, MP Capt Brijesh Chowta has issued strict instructions to the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to ensure smooth vehicular movement on the under-construction BC Road–Addahole four-lane stretch of the Mangaluru–Bengaluru National Highway 75. The directive aims to prevent public inconvenience due to ongoing works, especially around the Kalladka flyover.

Complaints from the public highlighted disruptions in vehicular movement caused by the ongoing highway expansion, particularly during the intensifying monsoon. In response, MP Chowta, who is currently on an all-party foreign delegation tour, has been in constant communication with NHAI officials, urging timely and efficient alternatives wherever construction obstructs traffic flow.

He emphasized the need for proactive planning to ensure uninterrupted traffic during the rainy season and directed NHAI to prioritize and promptly address all related concerns arising from the highway construction. Chowta also instructed officials to gather detailed reports on flood-prone zones and take pre-emptive actions.

Effective May 29, NHAI has opened the Vehicle Underpass (VUP) near Mani and another near Uppinangady for traffic. Furthermore, from June 2, the left section of the Kalladka town flyover will be accessible to vehicles. To address the waterlogging issue in Thumbay, NHAI has installed a pipe culvert, and once the work is complete, there will be no hindrance to traffic during heavy rains.

The MP added that alternative arrangements are being made to facilitate seamless traffic on all under-construction national highway stretches in the district during the monsoon.

As for construction progress, 14.4 km of the 15.130 km Addahole–Periyashanthi section has been completed. Similarly, 41.52 km out of 48.485 km from Periyashanthi to Bantwal has been completed, further easing traffic pressure in these areas.
