Bengaluru, May 29: Amid the recent surge in serial murders and communal unrest in Dakshina Kannada district, minister Dinesh Gundu Rao has reportedly offered to step down as the district in-charge minister.
Sources said that the minister visited Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at his official residence, Kaveri, and appealed to be relieved of his charge as the Dakshina Kannada in-charge minister.

For the past month, Dakshina Kannada has witnessed a series of disturbing incidents, drawing widespread concern. A high-level meeting is said to have been held at the CM's residence to discuss the situation. Those present reportedly included home minister Dr G Parameshwara, DGP and IGP Dr M A Saleem, and other senior officials.
More details are awaited on whether the chief minister has accepted the request and who may be named as Rao's replacement.
