Mullanpur, May 30: The much-anticipated IPL 2025 Eliminator clash between Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians is all set to light up the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur on Friday evening. While fans eagerly await this high-stakes battle, weather forecasts have raised questions about the impact of rain on the match.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Mullanpur is expected to experience partly cloudy skies with chances of brief spells of rain or thundershowers. Daytime temperatures could soar to around 40°C before dipping to the low 20s by evening. However, AccuWeather offers a more optimistic outlook for the match window, predicting zero per cent chance of rainfall despite persistent cloud cover. Earlier in the day, the region experienced heavy showers, but conditions have improved ahead of the game.
So, what happens if rain disrupts the proceedings?
As per IPL rules, there is no reserve day for the Eliminator fixture. If weather conditions prevent the minimum required play of five overs per side, the match will be declared a no-result. In such a scenario, Gujarat Titans, who finished higher on the league points table, will advance to Qualifier 2. Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians will be knocked out of the IPL 2025 season.
IPL officials will strive to maximize playtime and may reduce overs according to the standard playing conditions, but the cut-off time remains firm to ensure the tournament schedule stays on track.
With the stakes so high and uncertainty looming, fans across the country are hoping for clear skies and a thrilling contest between these two cricketing giants.
