Khartoum, May 31: At least 26 civilians were killed in recent attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in Sudan’s conflict-ravaged Kordofan region, the Sudanese government reported Friday.
According to a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the RSF carried out “horrific crimes” against civilians in several towns, including a strike on Al-Daman Hospital in El-Obeid city that killed 16 patients and injured others.
On Wednesday, a drone attack on a public market in Al-Khiwai, West Kordofan, killed eight civilians. Separately, an RSF assault on a residential area in Al-Dibaibat, South Kordofan, killed two civilians.
The ministry described the attacks as part of a deliberate campaign to target civilians, humanitarian groups, and critical infrastructure. It also accused the RSF of bombing World Food Programme warehouses in El-Fasher, North Darfur, destroying essential food supplies.
Clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF have intensified across Kordofan, which includes North, West, and South Kordofan states.
On Thursday, the RSF claimed to have seized control of Al-Dibaibat and Al-Khiwai, though the Sudanese army has not yet responded to this claim.
Sudan has been engulfed in a brutal conflict between the SAF and RSF since April 2023, leaving tens of thousands dead and displacing millions.
