Jaunpur, Jun 1: In a beautiful blend of cricket and politics, Indian cricketer Rinku Singh is all set to get engaged to first-time Member of Parliament from the Samajwadi Party, Priya Saroj, on June 8 in Lucknow. The news was confirmed by Priya’s father and senior politician Toofani Saroj, who described the ceremony as an intimate gathering of close friends and family.
The high-profile wedding has been scheduled for November 18 and will take place at the prestigious Hotel Taj in Varanasi. Invitations are likely to be extended to notable personalities from cricket, cinema, politics, and the corporate world, making it a star-studded affair.
Rinku Singh, 27, has been a standout performer for India in white-ball cricket, featuring in 2 ODIs and 33 T20 Internationals. Known for his explosive batting in the death overs, Rinku also plays for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, where he has won hearts with match-winning knocks.
Priya Saroj, 26, made her political debut in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and emerged victorious from Machhlishahr constituency in Jaunpur, representing the Samajwadi Party. She is the daughter of Toofani Saroj, a two-time former MP known for his strong grassroots connection.
Speaking to mediapersons, Toofani Saroj said, “The engagement will be a simple family affair. The alliance was finalised with mutual consent after both families met in Aligarh.”
He added, “Rinku and Priya have known each other for some time. They met through a common connection — the father of Priya’s friend, who is also a cricketer. With the blessings of both families, they decided to take their relationship to the next level.”
With preparations underway, the engagement is expected to be a warm, family-focused event, while the wedding later this year promises to be one of the biggest social events in Uttar Pradesh.
