Cairo, Jun 2: A high-level, multi-party Indian parliamentary delegation led by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) leader Supriya Sule on Monday engaged in extensive discussions with members of the Egyptian Senate, conveying India’s unwavering commitment to combating terrorism.

The delegation—part of India’s broader diplomatic outreach following the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack—was welcomed by Indian Ambassador to Egypt Suresh Reddy.

During their engagements, the delegation met with Senator Hossam Al-Khouly of the Mostaqbal Watan Party, Hazem Omar, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee, as well as other parliamentary leaders. The Egyptian Senate reaffirmed its solidarity with India and underscored the importance of the close strategic partnership between the two nations.

Carrying India’s firm message of zero tolerance towards terrorism, the delegation’s visit also included planned meetings with key Egyptian figures, such as Badr Abdelatty, Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States.

The all-party delegation included BJP leaders Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Anurag Thakur, and V. Muraleedharan; Congress leaders Manish Tewari and Anand Sharma; Telugu Desam Party’s Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu; Aam Aadmi Party leader Vikramjeet Singh Sawhney; and former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin.

In a statement, the Indian Embassy in Cairo highlighted a packed schedule featuring parliamentary exchanges, think tank interactions, media engagements, and meetings with the Indian community. The visit also included floral tributes at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at El-Horreya Park and the Heliopolis War Memorial.

“India’s outreach underscores its commitment to working with Egypt and the wider Arab world to combat terrorism and advance shared global values,” the statement said.

The Cairo leg of the delegation’s visit follows a successful stop in Ethiopia, where the delegation engaged with Ethiopian dignitaries, media, academia, think tanks, and the Indian community.

The delegation briefed the Ethiopian side on the Pahalgam terror attack and India’s calibrated and proportionate military response through Operation Sindoor, targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

They emphasized India’s strategic commitment to dismantling cross-border terrorism networks and the need for a unified global response to terrorism. The Ethiopian leadership reiterated its own zero-tolerance stance against terrorism and extended solidarity to India.

Addressing the Indian community in Ethiopia, delegation members praised their commitment to tolerance, pluralism, and unity, despite attempts by some forces to destabilize India’s social fabric. Many Ethiopian nationals who studied in India and now hold prominent positions expressed solidarity with India’s counter-terrorism measures.

The delegation’s visit to Egypt marks a significant step in India’s continued efforts to build international consensus against cross-border terrorism and highlights India’s proactive approach to global diplomatic engagement following the Pahalgam attack.
