Kundapur, Jun 4: The movement of a lone wild elephant in Siddapura, Hosangadi, Kamalashile, and surrounding areas has sparked fear among residents.
The elephant was spotted descending from Balebare Ghat and heading towards Siddapura town. Locals reported its presence in and around the Hulikal check post, Hosangadi, Siddapura, and Kamalashile.

As a precautionary measure, the weekly market scheduled to be held on June 4 in Siddapura was cancelled. All Anganwadi centres, primary and high schools in the region have been declared a holiday by the Kundapur Tahsildar.
Byndoor MLA Gururaj Gantihole, addressing the situation, urged the public to remain alert. “The elephant might have strayed from its natural path and entered residential areas. It is a collared elephant, and the elephant task force is closely monitoring its movements. I have spoken to forest officials and the task force team, and they are tracking its path continuously.
“I request the public to minimise outdoor movement between 6 pm and 6 am, and avoid stepping out alone. All necessary measures will be taken to capture the elephant and relocate it to its natural habitat. If anyone spots the animal, they should inform forest officials immediately,” he said.
