New Delhi, Jun 4: As India prepares to script another milestone in space exploration, Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla—call sign Shux—has emerged as the nation’s next space hero. Selected to fly aboard the Axiom-4 mission, Shukla has received high praise from none other than Hazzaa AlMansoori, the first astronaut from the United Arab Emirates, who trained closely with him in Houston.

“It was a great pleasure to work with him,” said AlMansoori, recalling their camaraderie. “He’s down to earth, and he’s going to be the pilot for the Dragon vehicle. He is prepared and professional.”

The duo, both former fighter pilots, bonded during intense training, simulating emergencies like onboard fires, depressurisation, and toxic leaks aboard the International Space Station. “Shukla was always ready for every scenario. We worked as a team on recovery and safety procedures,” AlMansoori added.

Expressing his full confidence in India’s second astronaut, AlMansoori said, “It’s a great responsibility, and I have no doubt—he will represent India in a great way.”

Sending a heartfelt message to his friend, AlMansoori urged Shukla to savour every second in orbit. “Shux, enjoy every moment aboard the space station. It’s a rare gift to float in space. Take plenty of photos—for your family, for the world. Everyone will be watching you from down here.”

He also invited Shukla to visit the UAE after his mission to share his experience with students and institutions across the country.

For Indian viewers concerned about mission safety, AlMansoori offered reassurance. “Falcon 9 is a proven and safe vehicle. SpaceX has a very professional team. God forbid, nothing will happen—you’re in safe hands.”

To India, he concluded with a warm message: “Wish him luck and enjoy every moment of his mission. You are part of his journey.”
