Illegal cricket betting racket busted in Brahmavar; two arrested

Udupi, Jun 4: In a significant crackdown on illegal online betting, police have arrested two individuals from Shiriyar village in Brahmavar taluk for allegedly engaging in cricket betting through an online application.

The incident occurred around 10 pm near the Saibarakatte auto stand in Shiriyar. According to reports, the accused were found placing bets on a match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) via a cricket betting website and mobile app.

The prime accused, Shivaraj (32), son of Srinivas Poojary, hailing from Hardalli-Mandalli village in Kundapura taluk, and the second accused, Pradeep (37), son of Vittal Poojary from Shiriyar village, were caught red-handed during the illegal operation. Authorities have seized three mobile phones used for placing the bets.

A case has been registered at the Kota Police Station. Both accused have been taken into custody and produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
