French Open 2025: Swiatek faces Sabalenka, Gauff meets France’s Boisson in high-voltage clashes

Daijiworld Media Network – Paris

Paris, Jun 5: The stage is set for an electrifying semi-final line-up at Roland Garros as reigning champion Iga Swiatek takes on World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka, while American star Coco Gauff battles France’s surprise package Lois Boisson in the women’s singles last-four clashes.

Swiatek, eyeing a historic fourth consecutive French Open title, enters the contest on the back of a 26-match unbeaten streak at Roland Garros. The Polish star, who has an 8-4 head-to-head lead over Sabalenka, brushed aside doubts over her clay-court form earlier in the season and has powered through the tournament with renewed grit.

Sabalenka, on the other hand, has not dropped a single set en route to the semi-finals. The Belarusian’s confident march has added weight to the blockbuster clash, with both players hungry for supremacy on clay. Their last encounter in Madrid ended in dramatic fashion with Swiatek saving three championship points before sealing victory in a third-set tiebreaker.

Meanwhile, the French crowd is rallying behind local hopeful Lois Boisson, who has scripted one of the most memorable runs in Grand Slam history. Ranked 361st in the world, Boisson stunned third seed Jessica Pegula and sixth seed Mirra Andreeva to reach her first-ever Grand Slam semi-final. Her sensational performance has ignited hopes of a fairytale triumph on home soil.

Awaiting her is Coco Gauff, the World No. 2, who is determined to silence the home crowd as she eyes her second career Grand Slam final. Gauff has shown composure and tactical discipline throughout the tournament and is seen as the favourite heading into the clash.

With history, prestige, and national pride on the line, all eyes will be on Court Philippe Chatrier as the women’s singles draw narrows to its final two.
