Lucknow, Jun 8: Indian cricketer Rinku Singh got engaged to Samajwadi Party MP Priya Saroj in a private ceremony in Lucknow on Sunday. The wedding is scheduled for November 18 at the Taj Hotel in Varanasi.

The engagement ceremony was attended by close family and several political heavyweights, including Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Dimple Yadav, Jaya Bachchan, Ram Gopal Yadav, and Shivpal Yadav. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla also graced the event to congratulate the couple.

Although some of Rinku’s cricketing colleagues were unable to attend, owing to their departure for the upcoming Test series in England starting June 20, former India fast bowler Praveen Kumar was present and conveyed his best wishes.

Rinku Singh, originally from Aligarh, has represented India in two ODIs and 33 T20Is over the past couple of years. A key player for the Kolkata Knight Riders, Rinku played a crucial role in their IPL 2024 championship victory.

Priya Saroj, 26, is a first-time MP from Jaunpur’s Machhlishahr constituency. A practicing advocate, she is recognized for her legal skills and dynamic political presence. Hailing from Karkhiyaon village in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi, Priya is the daughter of Tufani Saroj, a three-time MP and current MLA from Kerakat.

Priya’s uncle, Bhagwati Charan Saroj, expressed delight at the engagement. “She became the youngest MP with a record-breaking victory. Rinku is a well-known cricketer with a strong following. This match has come together with the blessings and consent of both families, and everyone is very happy,” he said.

The families are now looking forward to the wedding celebrations in November.
