Guwahati, Jun 10: In a major breakthrough in Assam’s war on drugs, the state police have seized narcotics worth a staggering Rs 45 crore in Cachar district, leading to the arrest of four drug peddlers on Monday. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to commend the Cachar Police for their prompt action and dedication.
The seizure included an alarming 1.5 lakh Yaba tablets, recovered during two successive raids, following credible intelligence inputs. Authorities believe this bust will help dismantle a wider drug trafficking network operating in the Northeast.

“Assam Police stands firm in protecting our youth,” wrote CM Sarma, reaffirming his government’s zero-tolerance policy towards drug abuse and trafficking.
This high-profile seizure comes amid a string of successful anti-narcotics operations across the Northeast:
• In Manipur’s Noney district, the Assam Rifles intercepted a truck headed from Imphal to Jiribam and recovered 569.24 grams of heroin and large quantities of amphetamine/methamphetamine tablets, worth around Rs 5 crore. The drugs were found cleverly concealed in soap cases and sachets.
• Meanwhile, BSF personnel of the Mizoram and Cachar Frontier, acting on a tip-off, seized 7.042 kg of pseudoephedrine tablets from Vairengte in Mizoram's Kolasib district. The consignment, valued at Rs 7.04 lakh, was allegedly smuggled from Myanmar. One individual has been arrested.
Officials have revealed that drug smuggling routes from Myanmar into Manipur, Mizoram, and Assam continue to pose a serious challenge, with pseudoephedrine and meth tablets often used in the manufacturing of high-grade narcotics.
With this latest development, the Assam Police and allied forces have intensified surveillance and border patrols, particularly along strategic transit routes connecting Northeast India with neighbouring countries.
