Kasaragod, Jun 10: In a bizarre incident that traces its roots back over five decades, two elderly men in Kerala’s Kasaragod district reportedly assaulted their former classmate over a school fight from 52 years ago.

According to police, Malothu Balakrishnan and Mathew Valiyaplackkal have been booked for physically attacking 62-year-old VJ Babu, their classmate from Class 4 at Natakkallu Aided UP School in Malom under the Balal grama panchayat.

The assault took place on June 2 near the Janarangan Hotel in Malom, a few days after an informal reunion. Police said the duo confronted Babu, pinned him down, and Mathew allegedly hit him on the face and body with a stone, asking, “Why did you attack Balakrishnan in the fourth standard?”

Vellarikundu Inspector TK Mukundan said that Mr Babu lost two teeth in the attack and is currently receiving treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital in Priyaram, Kannur.

In his statement, Babu alleged that the two men held a long-standing grudge from their school days and were intoxicated during the assault.

A case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
