Mangaluru, Jun 11: Ananya Rao, a native of Land Links in Mangaluru and daughter of retired telecom employee Satish Rao and Veena, has been commissioned as a sub-lieutenant in the Indian Navy.
Ananya was formally commissioned as an officer during the passing out parade held on May 31 at the Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala. She completed her early education to pre-university in Mangaluru, and later earned her BTech degree in mechanical engineering from NITK, Surathkal. Since childhood, she had a strong inclination toward serving the nation.

Driven by a desire to join the armed forces, Ananya underwent NCC training during her college years. After completing her engineering degree, she successfully cleared the armed forces selection process and underwent 10 months of rigorous training, culminating in her selection as a sub-lieutenant in the Indian Navy.
Her father, Satish Rao, is actively involved in the empowerment of persons with disabilities and currently serves as the district treasurer of the national organisation ‘Saksham’.
