Heavy vehicle traffic banned on Agumbe Ghat Road

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (JD)

Udupi, June 13: Due to the risk of landslides along the Agumbe Ghat section of the National Highway 169A (Tirthahalli–Malpe Road) — attributed to continuous heavy rains and the movement of heavy vehicles — the district administration has imposed a ban on the entry of heavy vehicles through this route from June 15 to September 30.

District commissioner and district magistrate Dr K Vidyakumari has issued the order.

As per the order, only light motor vehicles will be allowed to ply through the Agumbe Ghat during this period.

Heavy vehicles traveling from Udupi to Thirthahalli are advised to use the alternative route via Udupi–Kundapur–Siddapur–Mastikatte–Thirthahalli, the order stated.

The decision has been taken in the interest of public safety, considering the vulnerability of the ghat section to landslides during the monsoon season.
