Heavy rains breach church compound wall in Bajjodi, urgent municipal intervention sought

Media Release

Mangaluru, Jun 14: Incessant heavy rains that lashed the coastal city on Friday caused water from the elevated Bikarnakatte highway to gush downhill towards the Bajjodi locality, leading to severe waterlogging in the area.

In a concerning development, the deluge entered the premises of the Infant Mary Church, Bajjodi, resulting in the collapse of a section of the church compound wall. Locals reported that the sudden flow of stormwater overwhelmed the church grounds, triggering structural damage.

Church authorities and residents have urgently appealed to Mangaluru City Corporation officials to inspect the site and undertake immediate primary repair works to prevent further damage and ensure public safety.

With the monsoon intensifying, locals stressed the need for a sustainable drainage solution in the region to avoid recurrence of such incidents.
