Landslide at Kettikal near Vamanjoor disrupts NH-169 traffic after heavy rains

Mangaluru, Jun 14: The heavy downpour that lashed Mangaluru on Saturday triggered yet another landslide at Kettikal, near the outskirts of Vamanjoor, causing major disruption to traffic along National Highway 169, which connects Mangaluru, Moodbidri, and Karkala.

The landslide led to the complete blockage of one side of the road, forcing vehicles from both directions to use a single lane. The affected stretch is part of a recently constructed road, which has now been rendered partially inaccessible due to soil and debris covering one section.

Commuters are traveling with caution and anxiety as the hill at Kettikal continues to show signs of instability. The hill, which has experienced multiple landslides in recent weeks, again gave way today following relentless rainfall.

The persistent soil erosion has forced some residents to turn back rather than risk traveling through the area. The recurring landslides have raised serious concerns over road safety and infrastructure stability in the region.
