Mumbai, Jun 15: In a significant boost to Maharashtra’s higher education landscape, the state government has signed a Letter of Interest (LOI) with five prestigious global universities to establish their campuses in Navi Mumbai.
The five international institutions that have come forward with proposals include Aberdeen University (UK), University of York (UK), University of Western Australia, Illinois Institute of Technology (USA), and the Istituto Europeo di Design (Italy). This initiative marks a major milestone in Maharashtra's ambition to transform Navi Mumbai into a global education destination.

State authorities revealed that this move will open new doors for students who aspire for international education but are constrained by financial or logistical challenges. Speaking on the occasion, a government official stated, “Students who don't have the resources to go abroad can study here. We have created the ecosystem so that no one is left out, no dream is killed.”
The establishment of these foreign campuses is expected to bring world-class academic infrastructure, global curricula, and international faculty closer to Indian students, enhancing the state's profile as a knowledge hub and providing an affordable alternative to overseas education.
Further developments, including timelines for construction and course offerings, are expected to be announced in the coming months.
