London, Jun 16: Bracing for a high-octane challenge in the ongoing FIH Pro League 2024-25 (Women), the Indian Women’s Hockey Team is all set to take on world number 2 Argentina in back-to-back matches at the Lee Valley Hockey & Tennis Centre, London, on June 17 and 18.

Following a narrow loss to Australia, India, currently ranked 7th with 9 points, faces a daunting task against the formidable Argentine squad, who have already secured 7 wins from 12 matches and sit 2nd on the points table.

Skipper Salima Tete remains undeterred by the rankings. In a spirited message ahead of the clash, she said, “Argentina is ranked No. 2 in the world and has won 7 of their 12 FIH Pro League matches so far. Coming into this leg of the league, we knew they would be one of the toughest teams to beat. But we won’t go down without a fight — we’ll give it our all in both matches.”

She further added that the team has been rigorously preparing to counter Argentina’s playing style. “We’ve been working on various strategies to win crucial points against them,” she said, expressing confidence in her side’s adaptability and fighting spirit.

Vice-captain Navneet Kaur echoed Salima’s confidence, highlighting the team’s gritty performance against Australia as a morale booster. “As you saw, the team gave Australia a tough fight in the last two matches, and we’re planning to do the same against Argentina. A win here would not only boost our points tally but also lift the team’s confidence as we prepare for upcoming matches in Antwerp and Berlin against Belgium and China,” she said.

With their eyes set on crucial points and momentum, the Indian team is gearing up for what promises to be two intense and strategic encounters against one of the most consistent teams in the world circuit.

All eyes now turn to London as Team India prepares to showcase its resilience, hoping to script an inspiring chapter in its FIH Pro League campaign.
