Mangaluru, June 17: In a tragic incident reported from Adyar, a 10-month-old baby died after swallowing a beedi stub that had been carelessly discarded by the father inside their home.

The deceased has been identified as Aneesh Kumar, the child of a couple hailing from Bihar.

The incident occurred around 1:30 pm on Saturday. The baby was admitted to Wenlock Hospital around 3:30 pm and was under treatment, but unfortunately succumbed at 10:25 am on Sunday.

According to reports, the mother has alleged in her complaint that the child died due to the father’s negligence. She had reportedly warned him multiple times not to discard beedi stubs inside the house, but her warnings were ignored, ultimately leading to the fatal incident.

A lesson for all to be vigilant when toddlers are in the house. Especially electrical sockets connect with any gadgets, medicine and sharp items etc. We cannot expect the court to award severe punishment for the negligence. Of course, due warning must be issued to deal carefully in the future.

This death could have been entirely avoided. A few seconds of caution, safely disposing of the stub would have saved the child's life. In many countries, this could fall under criminal negligence or manslaughter. I don't know how Indian law will punish the father.

Just cannot imagine..how careless the parents are? with such a small child at home one should be very careful about anything that may harm the child. May the soul of little angel rest in peace.
