Udupi: School Children Create Mini-India on Republic Day

Udupi, Jan 27: The students of Narayana Guru Education Institutions, Padubelle, celebrated Republic Day on Thursday January 26 in a unique way.

A colourful mini-India was brought to life, with students forming its borders even as teams marched around the ground in unison. The scouts and guides of the school participated in the colourful march-past on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, All India Billawa Federation president Jaya C Suvarna said, "It is lack of patriotism which leads the people’s representatives to be increasingly involved in corruption. It is due to corrupt Mir Jaffer that the patriotic army of Sirajuddaula faced defeat against the army of Robert Clive, which set the foundation for Imperial rule in India. Thousands of people’s representatives of Mir Jaffer’s character are a disgrace to Indian democracy,"

Narayana Guru Education Institutions’ governing council deputy chairman S K Salian Belman presided over the programme.

Rotary district former assistant governor B Pundalik Marate, Shirva, local committee vice-president Jaya Shankar, Deepak J Poojary, Mangalore, entrepreneur Jayaram Suvarna, Udupi, Dinesh Suvarna, and Jayaprakash Suvarna, Shirva were the chief guests on the occasion.

Alice Edward D’Souza, B C Road, and Anantapadmanabha Bhat, who have been sponsoring Republic Day celebrations for the past decade, were present on the occasion.

National Karate champions Sherral and Carol, Maharashtra black belt trainee Pradyumna, national-level ‘Pratibha Karanji’ competitor Yogish Patkar, talented artistes Deeksha and Suketa, were felicitated during the programme.

Narayana Guru Education Institutions’ administrator Jinaraj Salian welcomed the gathering. Headmistress Usha N proposed the vote of thanks. Student leader Radha and Vishwambar compered the programme.
