Panaji, Jun 17: In a bid to showcase Goa’s spiritual heritage and diversify its tourism offerings beyond its world-renowned beaches, the state government is all set to launch a temple tour circuit titled ‘Ekadasha Teertha Yatra’, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The campaign will feature 11 iconic temples spread across Goa, taking visitors on a spiritual journey steeped in history, culture, and devotion. Among the key shrines on the itinerary are the revered Sri Manguesh Temple in Mangeshi, the Sri Mahalasa Narayani Temple in Mardol, the ancient Mahadev Temple in Tambdi Surla, and the Sri Shantadurga Temple in Fatorpa.
Kedar Naik, Director of Goa Tourism, said the initiative is aimed at offering pilgrims and tourists alike an opportunity to immerse themselves in the state’s sacred traditions. “This is more than a tourism product—it’s a journey of spiritual immersion, local engagement, and cultural preservation,” Naik noted.
As per the plan, tourists will be taken to four temples a day, completing the pilgrimage circuit over two to three days. Additionally, nearby tourist attractions will be included to provide a well-rounded travel experience.
A coordination meeting was held on Monday with representatives from all 11 temples to fine-tune the campaign and address any logistical concerns. “The temple committees have extended full support and offered valuable suggestions to ensure the sanctity of each shrine is upheld,” Naik said.
Key concerns raised by the committees included the need for Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for visitors, careful scheduling during temple festivals and utsavs, and improved parking and traffic management, especially for buses and large tourist vehicles.
The ‘Ekadasha Teertha Yatra’ aims to position Goa not only as a beach paradise but also as a spiritual destination that celebrates its rich temple traditions and cultural heritage.
