Mangaluru: UP native held for selling ganja-flavoured chocolates near Pumpwell

Mangaluru, Jun 21: Excise department officials have arrested a man for allegedly selling chocolates laced with the aroma of ganja near a paan shop close to Pumpwell in Mangaluru.

The arrested individual has been identified as Sujit Kumar, a native of Uttar Pradesh. Acting on specific information, the excise department conducted a raid and found Sujit selling chocolates that reportedly carried the scent of cannabis leaves.

During the operation, officials seized 303 grams of chocolates branded as ‘Bumchar Minar’, which were suspected to be infused with intoxicating substances. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and the accused has been produced before the court, which has remanded him to judicial custody.

The operation was led by Mangaluru north excise division deputy superintendent Gayathri C H. Mangaluru north subdivision inspector Sudheer Kumar registered the case. Inspector Sunitha, sub-inspector Harish, staff member Sandhya, driver Harish, and constable Maruthi D J also participated in the operation.
