Mangaluru: Yenepoya hosts 'Yoga Sangam' to mark International Day of Yoga 2025

Mangaluru, Jun 23: To mark the International Day of Yoga 2025, Yenepoya Naturopathy and Yogic Science College and Hospital, Naringana, in collaboration with the Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga, New Delhi, and the Ministry of AYUSH, organised “Yoga Sangam” at the Yendurance Zone, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), on June 21 from 6:00 am to 7:45 am.

The event, held with the support of Yenepoya Ayurveda Medical College, Yenepoya Homoeopathic Medical College, and Yenepoya Nursing College, brought together faculty, students, and guests in celebration of yoga’s role in holistic health and well-being.

The programme began with an invocation by first-year BNYS student Hajia Thafseera, followed by a yoga prayer by Dr Arpith Kumar. The ceremonial lamp-lighting was performed by Dr Gangadhar Somayaji K S, registrar of Yenepoya (Deemed to be University); Dr Vijayendra V Itagi, principal of Yenepoya Homoeopathic Medical College; Dr Puneeth Raghavendra K R, principal of Yenepoya Naturopathy and Yogic Science College and Hospital; along with Dr Padmashree, Dr Sangeethalaxmi, and Dr Arpith.

Dr Puneeth Raghavendra K R welcomed the gathering and delivered the opening remarks. In his inaugural address, chief guest Dr Gangadhar Somayaji highlighted the importance of integrating yoga into daily life to promote physical and mental well-being.

As part of the celebrations, dignitaries were felicitated with mementoes. A live telecast of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address on International Day of Yoga was streamed for the participants, followed by the IDY Yoga Protocol session led by Dr Arpith.

Later in the day, a special session was held with guest of honour Dr Dwaraknath, naturopathy and yoga physician from Tapasya Mitra Foundation, who motivated students to pursue excellence in the field of naturopathy. Dr Abhijna welcomed the gathering, while Dr Padmashree presented a report on the activities carried out by the college in connection with International Day of Yoga.

Chief guest for the second session, Dr B T Nandeesh, controller of examinations at Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), delivered a guest address and was felicitated by principal Dr Puneeth Raghavendra.

The event concluded with cultural performances by BNYS students, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Priya Mathew.
