Muddur: Deve Gowda's Last Political Fight: State Tour to Strengthen JD(S)

Maddur, Jan 28 (DHNS): Stating that money, power and social status are aspects that don’t last for too long, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda said he would work to serve the people till his last breath.

Speaking to media persons after offering special pooja at Kadali Venkateshwara Swamy temple here on Friday, Gowda said he was close to being bedridden three months ago, but has now recuperated well.

“I will shortly begin touring the state to strengthen the party,” said the JD(S) supremo. Criticising the mindset of the people who have lately lost fear about ‘wrongdoings’ and hope that god would certainly forgive them and good times await them, he said people should stop taking the wrong path for want of quick luxuries.

Later, addressing the press persons, Deve Gowda said this would be his last political fight. “I will travel through the state, meet leaders in every district from February 10 onwards. I will stop spending time on delivering long speeches and will ensure I meet the leaders face to face, and hold discussions with them for revival of JD(S) in the state,” he added.

A confederation of people across different classes such as labourers, farmers and those who have faced exploitation for long, former prime minister said he would personally overlook the organising efforts put in by his men, and in case of lacunae, he would certainly fix them.

Refusing to comment on internal problems of leadership that are affecting BJP and Congress, Gowda said leaders of those parties can take their own decision regarding these. Even nomation of Justice Bannurmath for the post of Lokayukta is something I do not want to comment since the people of the state know the depth of this controversy.

“That people are suffering through poverty and hunger has left me deeply affected. Hence, even in this advanced age, I am out to wipe the tears of such people,” he emphasised.

MLAs Kalpana Siddaraju, B Ramakrishna, JD(S) district unit president D Ramesh, Taluk Panchayat president Ajj ahalli Ramakrishna and others were present at the press meet.
