New Delhi, Jun 25: In a devastating incident that has shocked the national capital, four persons lost their lives in a massive fire that engulfed a chemical factory in the Rithala area of northwest Delhi on Tuesday evening.
According to officials from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS), the blaze broke out in a factory located in Rohini Sector-5, dangerously close to the Rithala Metro Station. The first alert was received at around 7:25 pm, following which 16 fire tenders were swiftly deployed to the site to battle the raging inferno.
DFS Chief Atul Garg confirmed the scale of the emergency and said efforts to douse the fire were launched immediately upon arrival. Despite prompt action, the intensity of the flames made rescue operations extremely challenging.
Tragically, four charred bodies have been recovered from the site so far. Police sources indicated that the search operation is still ongoing, with concerns that more individuals could be trapped within the debris.
The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed, and officials have stated that further details will be shared following forensic examination and post-mortem procedures.
Authorities are also investigating the cause of the fire, while preliminary suspicions point towards the highly flammable nature of chemicals stored at the premises. A case has been registered and teams from the crime branch and forensics have been called in to examine the scene.
The incident has once again raised serious concerns about safety compliance in industrial units operating in densely populated areas of Delhi.
