Udupi, Jun 27: A clash between two auto-rickshaw drivers at a stand near TMA Pai Hospital in Moodanidambur village has resulted in criminal cases being registered against both parties at the Udupi town police station.
The first complaint was filed by Prasad (33) from Kurkalu, Udupi. According to him, on June 25 at around 6:15 pm, while he had parked his auto-rickshaw in the queue at the designated stand, a group led by Raghunandan, Chandra, Panishekhar, Ravi, and Vittal objected to the number of autos present, stating that only five autos should be allowed. Prasad reportedly responded that any auto with a permit can park at the stand. This allegedly led Raghunandan to assault him with a kick to the chest and threaten him, while Panishekhar attempted to stab him with a screwdriver. Prasad escaped unharmed. Based on the complaint, a case (Crime No. 112/2025) has been registered under Sections 189(2), 191(2), 126(2), 115(2), 351(2), and 190 of the BNS.
In a counter-complaint, Raghunandan (57) of Herga village, also an auto-rickshaw driver at the same location, stated that around 5:30 pm the same day, Prasad arrived at the stand and confronted him about a previous police case. Prasad allegedly attacked Raghunandan with a rod, injuring both his hands, and also kicked and punched him while issuing threats. Around ten minutes later, Prasad allegedly returned with others identified as Chennakeshava, Rajesh Vittal, Sharath, and Ravi from Shankarpura, and threatened Raghunandan again. Based on this complaint, a separate case (Crime No. 113/2025) was registered under Sections 115, 118(1), 351(2), 191(2), 189(2), and 190 of the BNS.
Investigations into both cases are currently underway.
