Mangaluru/Udupi, Jun 28: Moderate rainfall was reported in various parts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts on Friday, with showers gaining intensity by evening. While the day began with occasional spells and dry intervals, the evening brought consistent rain in several regions.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a weather alert has been issued for coastal Karnataka for June 28 and 29, predicting heavy rainfall accompanied by strong gusty winds in the coming days.

In Dakshina Kannada, five houses sustained partial damage in the 24 hours leading up to Friday morning. The rain also caused damage to 101 electric poles and one transformer, highlighting the impact on basic infrastructure in some areas.

Water levels recede in rivers

After witnessing a rise in water levels on Thursday, the rivers across coastal Karnataka saw a gradual decline on Friday. Authorities confirmed that all major rivers in the region are currently flowing below the danger mark, offering some relief to residents.

Udupi sees light rain despite orange alert

Despite an orange alert being in place for Udupi district on Friday, the rainfall remained moderate and fell short of expected levels. Udupi town and surrounding areas experienced scattered rain throughout the day.

Regions like Byndoor and Kundapur received minimal rainfall, while areas such as Karkala, Kaup, Brahmavar, and Hebri witnessed intermittent showers from morning to night. Overcast skies and a cool atmosphere prevailed across most parts of the district.

The weather department continues to monitor the coastal belt closely, as more intense rainfall is forecast over the weekend. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and prepared for sudden weather changes.
