Bantwal, Jun 30: In a tragic road accident reported near Ajjibettu Cross in B C Road, Bantwal, a 50-year-old scooter rider lost his life on the spot after a collision with a tanker lorry on Monday, June 30.
The deceased has been identified as Chidananda, a resident of Koppala in Shambur.
According to sources, the accident occurred while Chidananda was attempting to cross the road at Ajjibettu Cross after returning from the BC Road market. A tanker lorry heading towards Mangaluru reportedly hit his scooter at high speed, dragging him under the wheels and killing him instantly.

Chidananda was employed with the Dharmasthala Rural Development Project (DRDP). He is survived by his wife, a guest teacher at Shambur School, and two children — a son and a daughter.
The sudden demise has cast a pall of gloom over the community and among DRDP colleagues.
Bantwal Traffic Police visited the spot and have registered a case in connection with the incident.
Further investigation is underway.
