Thane, Jun 30: Saquib Nachan, a convict in the 2002 Mumbai bomb blasts case and an accused in an ISIS module investigation, was laid to rest on Monday in Borivali village near Padgha, Thane, under heavy police security—two days after his death.
According to police sources, the funeral drew a crowd of around 1,200 to 1,500 villagers, many of whom reportedly held the former SIMI member in high regard. Among those present was Nachan’s younger son, Shamil, currently in jail in connection with the ISIS case. He was granted special permission to attend his father’s burial.
Security agencies, including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), were also present at the burial site as a precautionary measure.
Nachan, who had been serving his sentence in Tihar Jail, reportedly suffered a brain haemorrhage on June 22 and died while undergoing treatment.
