Thief drills hole into showroom wall, escapes with mobile phones worth Rs 5 lac

Hyderabad, Jul 1: In a cinematic-style heist that has stunned locals and officials alike, an unidentified burglar drilled a hole through the wall of a Big C mobile showroom in the city and decamped with mobile phones worth nearly Rs 5 lakh.

The incident occurred in the early hours of June 30, around 3:30 am, at the store located on the bustling Dilsukhnagar–Koti main road. CCTV footage has captured the audacious act in its entirety.

Rather than force open the main entrance, the thief carved out a custom route. Using a hammer and tools, he drilled a sizeable hole in the showroom's side wall — just enough to crawl through. The broken debris and the hammer were later found lying on the staircase adjacent to the store, indicating premeditation and precision.

In the surveillance video, the intruder is seen moving about inside the showroom with his face wrapped in a stole, concealing his identity. He appears selective in his approach, picking three phones from one shelf before heading to another rack to grab a few more. In total, at least six high-end mobile phones of various brands were stolen before the burglar made his escape through the same wall opening.

The theft has left the showroom staff and management in disbelief. A formal complaint was lodged, and a case has been registered. Hyderabad police have initiated an investigation and are currently reviewing all available footage to track down the suspect.

Meanwhile, security lapses and vulnerabilities in high-footfall commercial zones have once again come under the spotlight, prompting shop owners to revisit their safety protocols.
