Mangalore: 250th Wilfy Nite this Year End

Mangalore, Jan 29: Konkani singing legend Wilfy Rebimbus had dreamt of presenting his 250th nite to his fans and Konkani music lovers, but he passed away in March 2010 with only a few nites short of fulfulling his dream. But his family members with the support of United Youngsters have kept his dream alive by continuing his legacy, presenting Wilfy Nites in places like Doha and Mumbai.

United Youngsters, an association which has a history of over 50 years, and which was founded and promoted by the legend himself, will now host his 250th Wilfy Nite on December 23, 2012 in Mangalore, in a big way.

According to family sources, the event will be held in December so as to facilitate his fans from worldwide to attend the show, as usually during Christmas season people return home for the celebration.

As usual, the nite will include the lyrics and composition of Wilfy Rebimbus, Veena Pais Rebimbus and Vishwas Rebimbus.

Details of venue, timings and so on will be published in daijiworld in the coming days.

    I am dilighted to hear that 250th wilfynite is already planned. This was the dream of late Wily Rebimbus.and I had a desire to host it in Jeppu church campus.But unfortunately due to the sudden death of Wilfyab everyhting we planned we could not realize.It was all God,s plan that that his family members realize this plan. My best wishes to meenabai, Vishwas , veena and all the family members. Good luck to you all. my prayers are there for you.Surelry i will attend this memorable show. May Wilfyiab live for ever and ever through his memorable words presented through his beautiful songs.

    Wilfy & Meena were/are great.I have met them personally and heard their songs.Being a bunt I lived amongs't catholic families and understand and can speak konkani very well.These catholics have never tried to convert me either in my 62 years nor have they spoken about conversion to me!! The Catholics are the most talented/educated /loving/generous/vivacious/God fearing community and we have to recognise the good and try to change ourselves for the betterment of society.They are also very helpful people esp. to the poor and the downtrodden.We non catholics have to learn alot from them.But some non catholics can't bare to see them coming up because they can't match them .That's the reason they feel jealous /threatened/ social misfits .I can't see any other better reason to hurt the catholic community.I wish them very well in whatever they do.May god bless them all.

    Dear Meena, We miss dear Wilfy and his touching songs.Please keep up his good work in right earnest.He is watching us all from above.

    Wonderful news. I will see that I won't miss it at any cost . Wilfi has kept Konkani alive. Keep his group running for so many years he might have spend a lot. We cannot imagine the cost of maintaining a team for such a long period. In Wilson's Oliveras recent 'Mojya Bhangara CD there is a song "Konkanghar" in that he says 'Gulfagharani versa versa thancha ratavallenth konkni karyi mandun hadun konknek vartho man deela' what a wonderful tribute to Gulfagars.     Undoubtedly 250th 'Wilfy Nite' is a great initiative by the Rebimbus family to fulfill the dream of Konkani's music legend Amar Wilfy Rebimbus. Surely this unique program will create a history in the Konkani Music world. Kudos to the organizers. We wish a thrilling success for the program!
