Sambhal, Jul 5: In a tragic accident on Friday morning, eight members of a wedding party, including the 24-year-old groom, lost their lives and two others were critically injured after their Bolero SUV crashed into a college wall in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district.
The incident occurred around 6:30 am near Janata Inter College in Jewanai village when the high-speed vehicle lost control, rammed into the boundary wall, and overturned. The victims were en route from Har Govindpur village in Sambhal to the bride’s village in Sirtoul, Budaun district.

Ten family members were travelling in the SUV — far exceeding its passenger capacity. Five were declared dead at the scene, including groom Suraj (24), his sister-in-law Asha (26), her daughter Aishwarya (2), and six-year-old Vishnu, son of Manoj. Three others, including an aunt of the groom and two unidentified minors, succumbed to injuries during treatment.
Two surviving passengers remain in critical condition and have been referred to a higher medical facility in Aligarh.
“The vehicle was speeding and lost control before hitting the college wall,” said ASP (South) Anukriti Sharma. “Police and medical teams responded promptly, and a probe is underway to determine the exact cause.”
Heart-wrenching visuals from the crash site showed the mangled SUV, bloodstains, and shattered debris as locals gathered in shock. Police have launched an investigation.
