Mangaluru, July 6: Nearly five and a half months after the robbery at the K C Road branch of the Kotekar Agricultural Credit Co-operative Society, Mangaluru police, following a court order, handed over around 18.306 kg of gold ornaments worth Rs 13.5 crore to the bank's K C Road branch manager in the presence of the gold appraiser.
The robbery had occurred in broad daylight, when a gang of robbers from Tamil Nadu, with roots in Mumbai, brandished a revolver and looted gold ornaments and cash from the bank. They later fled to Tirunelveli in Tamil Nadu.

Acting on reliable information, Mangaluru police successfully cracked the case and arrested the accused — Murugandi Thevar alias Kumar, Kannan Mani, and M Shanmugha Sundaram, all natives of Tamil Nadu — along with local accomplices Shashi Thevar alias Bhaskar Belchappad and Mohammed Nazeer. The stolen gold was recovered from them.
After a detailed investigation, the police submitted a chargesheet against the accused in court. As per the court's directive, the recovered 18.360 kg of gold was weighed and formally handed over to bank manager Vani, in the presence of the bank's appraiser.
