Shivamogga, Jul 6: Tension flared in the Bangarappa Layout of Raggigudda, Shivamogga on Sunday following a disturbing incident where miscreants allegedly desecrated religious idols of Lord Ganesha and Naga, sparking outrage among the local residents.

According to police sources, the incident occurred in the Shantinagar ward of the district headquarters town, where the idols had been recently installed by devotees along the main road. In a shocking development, the Naga idol was found thrown into a roadside drain, adding to the anguish of the locals.

Residents of the area expressed deep anguish over the act of vandalism and condemned the deliberate insult to their religious sentiments. A large number of people gathered at the spot, demanding swift and stern action against those responsible.

Senior police officers, including top brass from the district police, rushed to the location and interacted with community members in a bid to defuse tension. Authorities assured that a case has been registered and investigations are underway. To prevent any escalation, additional police personnel have been deployed, and the area is currently under tight security.

Speaking on the incident, BJP state president and Shikaripura MLA B Y Vijayendra took to social media platform 'X' and came down heavily on the Congress-led state government.

“After a brief pause, anti-Hindu elements have once again raised their head in Shivamogga. In Raggigudda, the idols of Ganesha and Sheshanaga were desecrated and thrown into a drain. This is an unforgivable act,” he posted.

Accusing the state government of being biased, Vijayendra alleged, “The @INCKarnataka government, which treats Hindu organisations with suspicion, is indirectly encouraging such acts. Shivamogga district has been witnessing repeated incidents of miscreant activity, and the administration’s silence is shocking.”

He further warned the government of serious repercussions if timely action is not taken. “If the culprits are not brought to book immediately, the government will have to answer for the consequences that may follow,” he stated.

As of now, the Congress party has not issued any official response regarding the incident.

Police have confirmed that the situation is under control and investigations are being pursued with urgency to identify the perpetrators behind this provocative act.
