Puttur, Jul 7: Vehicular movement on National Highway 75 was disrupted on Sunday after a major landslide occurred near Mannagundi, close to Nelyadi in Dakshina Kannada district. The incident blocked the highway and caused traffic to slow down significantly.
The landslide is being attributed to unscientific hill-cutting works undertaken as part of the NH-75 four-laning project. This marks the fourth landslide in the same area during the ongoing monsoon season, raising serious safety concerns.

As the entire stretch of the highway was blocked by debris, vehicles were forced to halt in long queues. Fortunately, traffic from Bengaluru had already cleared the area before the landslide, preventing major congestion or chaos.
Later, an earthmover (JCB) was deployed to clear the mud and debris, after which traffic resumed gradually with vehicles moving cautiously through the affected zone.
Thanks to the swift response by authorities and cooperation from commuters, the situation was brought under control without further escalation.
